Oldest
Brother and Oldest Sister
Marry
This is a picture of my father's
oldest brother and my mother's oldest sister. They were married,
which makes their children my "double cousins."
Gus Wolfe was married before he
married my mother's sister, Emma Blackburn. He was married to Hazel
Mockabee. Gus and Hazel had four children: Lester, Gusty,
Beulah, and Chester Ellis (who died in infancy).
Gus and Emma had two children:
Eugene and Joyce Wolfe. They are, as I say, my double cousins.

This is a picture of Hazel
Mocabee, first wife to Gus Wolfe.
Gus died at the age of 47 of a
sudden heart attack. I did not know Gus, because he died the year I
was born. My father was the youngest of the children, and there were
12 children; so a lot of time went by between the first and last child in
this large family.
Emma, however, lived many years
after, so I knew her very well. Emma visited me in the hospital when
I had Polio. She lived very close to the hospital, and my parents
lived in the country; so Emma visited nearly every day, and my parents
came when they could.
Emma would visit our home often, so
I got to know her very well. She came nearly every holiday. My
mother's family had 12 children, also, but my mother was third from the
oldest, so I got to meet most of her brothers and sisters. Emma died
Aug. 24, 2001.
I had the privilege to preach her
funeral and the funerals of several others of her siblings.
